Brechin started with a 3-5-2 formation with Jamie Smith, Andy Dowie and David White in defence. While Paul Deas played as a defensive midfielder down the left. Roddy Black, Charlie King, Grant Johnson and Craig Winter started in midfield, while the attack consisted of Chris Templeman and on-form Graham Gibson.
Brechin had a promising start to the game and got a deserved lead when Raith keeper David Berthelot stuttered with a pass back and Graham Gibson nipped in to score his 3rd goal in 3 matches.
Brechin were playing attractive football on the deck and looked the better side, although Raith had more chances, Kevin Budinauckas made a superb double save to thwart the Raith strikers.
Raith grabbed an equaliser they needed just 7 minutes into the second half when Paul Deas brought Paquito to the ground well inside our own half, but the referee played advantage and 16 year old debutant Craig O’Reilly dodged 2 defenders before slotting into the net.
Both Raith and Brechin pushed for the winner but could not find the net, both fans went home satisfied.
BCA’s MoM- Graham Gibson has to be given the credit he deserves after scoring 3 poacher goals in 3 games, although the energetic Craig Winter just pips him for Man Of The Match for his fine performance in the middle of the park.
Referee: I. Brines, Erskine.
Attendance: 2,311
The result means Raith will play another season in division 1, while Ayr have been relegated and will join us in division 2 next year as they could only draw 0-0 with Falkirk at Ochilview, they needed a win.
Meanwhile, in the 3rd division, the championship trophy has not been won yet as Stirling Albion and Stranraer drew 2-2 at Forthbank. Stranraer opened the scoring through Wright on 63 minutes, and top scorer Michael Moore added a 2nd just 12 minutes later. But Stirling made a great comeback as Ferguson scored a late double inside the last 10 minutes. Stranraer are currently 2 points ahead of Stirling and have the easier run-in, as they play 7th placed Albion Rovers at home, while the binos have a tricky trip to Cowdenbeath.
