Brechin cruised to what was in the end a comfortable victory over their local derby rivals Arbroath.

Brechin attacked from the start and after just 15 seconds Paul Ritchie fired just over.

Arbroath hit back, and on five minutes Kevin McMullen drove inches over.

Brechin came back, and a minute later Steven Hampshire had a shot blocked, and when the ball was played back into the danger area Ritchie shot over.

Arbroath scored after 16 minutes against the run of play. Stuart MacDonald played the ball through and Paul Farquharson ran in to score.

Brechin hit back to equalise two minutes from half time. Ritchie won the ball out on the right and crossed to his strike partner Graham Gibson to head home.

Brechin piled on the pressure at the start of the second half and forced three successive corners, and from the third they took a 2-1 lead.

Charlie King sent in the corner and Gibson bundled the ball home.

Brechin piled on the pressure and a low drive from Kevin Byers was turned for a corner by keeper Timmy Woodcock. Then the keeper also saved well from Ritchie.

Brechin stretched their lead after 71 minutes when Hampshire broke on the right and crossed for Ritchie, and the ball broke kindly for Charlie King to side-foot home.

Brechin put the icing on the cake with a fourth goal a minute from time. David White headed the ball forward and substitute Chris Templeman ran in to score.
