Ayr secured an impressive 3-0 win at Brechin as they replaced their opponents into second place in the Scottish Second Division.
After Rory McAllister had twice come close to giving Brechin the lead in the early stages, United went in front 12 minutes before half-time with Michael Moffat rifling into the top corner from the edge of the penalty area.
It was 2-0 just two minutes later as Mark Roberts converted a penalty for his 20th league goal of the season following Ewan Moyes' foul on Alan Trouten.
Brechin offered little in reply in the second half and it was no surprise when the away side notched a third five minutes from time, David Crawford with a close-range finish.
