Five star Forfar sink City

Forfar stormed to their first win in seven matches as they began 2014 with a bang courtesy of a 5-1 victory at Brechin.

The Loons, who went through the whole of December without a win, scored four times in the first half through Martyn Fotheringham, Chris Templeman, Darren Dods and Dale Hilson.

Robert Barr replied for the hosts after Iain Campbell had seen his penalty saved by Brechin goalkeeper Calum Antell before Templeman completed the rout with his second goal of the game.

Fotheringham's lob had Forfar ahead after just seven minutes and Hilson saw a shot strike a post before Dick Campbell's team doubled their lead in the 17th minute with Templeman's tidy finish.

Dods' free-kick put the visitors three in front with 31 minutes gone and Hilson gobbled up Campbell's pass four minutes later to score a fourth.

Forfar hit the woodwork again when Omar Kader's effort struck the crossbar shortly before Campbell was thwarted by Antell from the spot midway through the second half.

Barr got Brechin on the scoresheet with a rising shot after 75 minutes and Templeman tapped in Kader's cross six minutes later.
