Brechin 1-3 Dundee

City welcomed a Dundee side to Glebe Park who haven't won away from home since man first walked on the moon. Well, over a year they haven't won away from home, after defeating Aberdeen 2-1 at Pittodrie. Another interesting fact is that they haven't won outside of Dundee for about 504 days.

A huge crowd crammed into Glebe Park for this encounter, well, around 1,500 of the 2,022 crowd were Dundonian's. And it seemed to me quite a few of them were a little 'Foo', as a few idiots threw their mate on the pitch, who then proceeded to try and trip up the Hedge Side linesman, all while the game was going on. Whether Dundee FC can be fined for this or not I don't know, but I'd imagine so.

Both teams served up a terrible game of football, and both sides kept trying to thump the ball up the park against gale force winds, and it took them a while to realise that doesn't work and makes it easy for the defence. Some terrible defending by captain Paul Deas on the quarter hour mark gifted Dundee the opening goal. Paul Deas misjudged a ball punted up the park by Blobby Man, and on-form striker Simon Lynch ran in on goal, rounded the keeper and tapped the ball past Paul Deas and into the empty net.

With half an hour on the clock more poor defending gave Dundee a second goal. New recruit Steven Craig got the better of Davie White and struck low into the net from an acute angle. Barely four minutes later Dundee virtually wrapped the game up. A long ball from the Dundee defence went straight through the City rearguard and Simon Lynch latched on and deftly chipped the ball past Craig Nelson and into the top corner.

Just as the City fans were about to boo the team off the park at half time, City pulled a goal back. Charlie King's run and cut-back was poorly defended and Stuart Callaghan blasted a volley into the 'top pooch' of the net to give City a glimmer of hope.

The second half was absolutely woeful, with no real chances or incidents worth mentioning apart from Callaghan's second yellow which meant he was sent off an hour into the game. But City held firm to keep the scoreline at 3-1, but it was the men from Dens Park that went home happy.

A major improvement is needed if we are to overcome both St Johnstone and Hamilton away from home in the next three weeks.

Anyway, City fans can put the disastorous league campaign so far to the back of their heads and urge Scotland on to a win against Belarus at Hampden next Saturday!
